It said that the downturn in work would force it to let go of around 100 of its 2,500 staff this year.
The job losses are expected to be deepest in the north east, where around a fifth of the Leeds workforce could be cut because of falling workloads across the region.
Jobs will also be cut in the Midlands and Western regions where orders are also thin on the ground.
A Bam Construct spokesman said: “The company has a programme underway to consult with staff in our construction business.
“We have managed to progress quite far into the recession without having to scale back the number of our employees and we are determined to keep the number of redundancies to a minimum in order to retain as much talent and capacity as possible within our business.”
A spokesman added: “Like all businesses, however, we cannot ignore the difficult economic reality.”
