Former R&D construction workers win payouts

Workers who lost their jobs when Scottish contractor R&D Construction collapsed earlier this year have won payouts worth a few thousand each.

Dumfries-based R&D went under in April making around 200 staff redundant.

Construction union Ucatt took the firm to an employment tribunal which found against R&D.

Ucatt official Harry Frew said the money would come from the Insolvency Service and was likely to run into a few thousand pounds for each of the workers involved.

He told the BBC: “It was a good decision and I think it was a fair decision.”

Frew added that the money secured would be in addition to redundancy payments made earlier this year.
