The council is the first to react in the wake of plans revealed by the government last week to slash subsidies for solar panel installation.

Leeds council said cuts to the feed-in-tariffs meant the planned scheme no longer stacked up financially.

Neil Evans, Leeds City Council director for environment and neighbourhoods said: “The proposals in the government’s consultation means our solar panel project is no longer viable”
