The developer plans to convert the iconic building into offices and a hotel with shops at street level.
Merepark has publicly advertised tenders for 24 packages covering foundations, reinforced concrete to bricklaying, flooring and plastering.
Eventually, the redevelopment of the Lewis’s building will create 80,000 sq ft of offices on the upper floors.
There will be a 129-bed Adagio hotel and Prezzo, Handmade Burger Company, Chiquito and Frankie & Benny’s restaurants above ground floor retail.
The projects forms part of a £200m scheme to transform a 6-acre area behind Liverpool Central Station, Renshaw Street and Bold Street.
The Central Village project sees the complete refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Lewis’s building and the adjacent Watson building, as well as extensive works to Liverpool Central Station.
It will eventually see two huge skyscrapers built behind Central station, a revamp of the station itself and a new leisure complex.
