The trio plan to build 1,800 homes over the next 15 years to regenerate the run-down Scotswood area in the west end of Newcastle city centre.

The developers have pledged to bring jobs and apprenticeships to the area with help also being provided for first-time buyers.

Housing work on the first 400 homes is expected to get underway in the spring in what is being hailed the largest regeneration scheme in the North East

Funding from the Homes and Communities Agency’s FirstBuy scheme will support first-time buyers in their efforts to get on the housing ladder and money invested in local schools to entice families to relocate to the area.

The New Tyne West Development Company – the public private partnership formed by the builders and the city council – will be running workshops in coming months to help local firms bid for work on the development.
