The new 1,200-pupil Barrow secondary school will be built on part of the academy’s South Site playing field.
The building was originally due to be ready in September, but was pushed back 12 months by a series of delays caused by the Government’s review of school building and a planning application to turn the site into a village green.
From summer 2013 the academy is set to vacate its north site and hand it back to Cumbria County Council.
