The acquisition fills a gap in Breedon’s’ coverage of the East Midlands, located midway between its plants at Cloud Hill to the south-west and Grantham to the east.
Breedon said: “Nottingham is a key centre of economic activity in the region, with a number of major infrastructure and commercial projects currently underway or in the pipeline, including the £600m tram project due to start in 2012.
“Nottingham Readymix is the leading supplier of ready-mixed concrete in the city, with a fleet of modern delivery vehicles.”
Breedon group chief executive Simon Vivian said:”From a practical point of view, nothing will change following this acquisition.
“The business will continue to trade as Nottingham Readymix and its senior management team will continue to run the business day-to-day, providing the same level of excellent service.”
Nottingham Readymix will form Breedon’s Nottinghamshire hub, from which the Company intends to develop its ready-mixed concrete operations over the next few years.
The team there will work closely with Breedon’s flagship quarry at Cloud Hill near Breedon-on-the-Hill, which will supply them with crushed rock.
