GB took on the site in 2009 as the firm’s construction arm started the £11.5m design and build of the club’s new stadium which was completed in 2010.
Barratt now intends to build 68 family homes of two, three and four bedrooms in line with the planning permission originally achieved by GB.
Prior to demolishing the existing stadium an archaeological dig and survey must be carried out.
Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Group said: “After working with Chesterfield FC for a number of years we are really pleased to complete this deal with Barratt Homes, one of the leading housing developers in the UK.
“We know that local people are really keen to see the site developed and the much needed provision of new homes that this will create.”
