Boots’ property chief Michael Green has been given the top job running the Government’s £4.5bn schools capital programme.

He will take over as director of capital at the Education Funding Agency, which will replace Partnerships for Schools in April.

The retail property expert will be one of a team of four divisional directors in a £130,000-a-year roles under the new executive agency of the Department for Education.

Green boasts a strong track record in delivering multi-site construction jobs and introduced a new maintenance service for Boot’s 3,000 buildings estate that, according to external benchmarking by consultants EC Harris, is now regarded as amongst the best in the sector

He also oversaw a major property portfolio overhaul of the Boots estate following its merger with Alliance.

This project was delivered ahead of schedule and significantly under budget.

Before joining Boots in 2000, he worked for various civil engineering contractors including Mowlem, AF Budge and Thyssen.

Peter Lauener, Chief Executive Designate of the EFA, said: “The EFA’s Director of Capital will need the drive, innovation and enterprise necessary to lead a team delivering the Government’s ambitious education reforms and ensure value for the taxpayers’ money.

“With a background in civil engineering, experience of leading a major transformation programme, and first-hand knowledge of many areas of significance for EFA business, the appointment panel was unanimous that Mike will be an excellent member of the senior leadership team.”
