The project is estimated at £40-£60m and will involve construction of a new engineering building containing lecture theatres, laboratories, teaching and learning facilities.
Work on the two-year building programme is expected to get underway in May 2013.
Architect RMJM is working up designs that are expected to be completed this summer, allowing for an initial submission to the planning authority in November.
The whole Jessop East development, between Leavygreave Road, St. George’s Terrace and Broad Lane, would contain a mix of staff-led teaching and learning spaces, student-led learning spaces and specialised engineering teaching facilities.
