The Sketch-Up platform is used by millions of design professionals in construction, architecture and engineering to produce 3D visualisations of projects.
Trimble is a major player in the growing BIM market with a focus on the construction side.
The firm will work in collaboration with Google on a “3D Warehouse” where users can store and compare building models online.
Bryn Fosburgh, Trimble vice president said: “The combined capability will enhance our ability to extend our existing market applications including the heavy civil, and building and construction industries.
“Beyond extending the reach of the product into Trimble’s commercial markets, we are committed to continuing to provide SketchUp as a free version to millions of users.
“Trimble and Google will also continue to collaborate on utilizing other Google tools for Trimble’s markets that, along with SketchUp, will provide our customers innovative and productive tools that transform their work.”
