Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has bagged contracts totalling £143 million in the first quarter of 2012, 13% more than the same period last year.

The contracts include work with both new customers and repeat business with existing customers.

BBRCE deputy nanaging director, Murray Easton, said:  “ The nature of our business is such that we have the expertise necessary to carry out projects over a wide range of civil engineering disciplines.”

Major wins this year at regional civils arm

  • At Selsey on the Sussex coast Balfour will undertake the largest privately funded coastal defence scheme to date in the UK, for Holiday Park operator – Bunn Leisure. The £12.3m job involves building of two off-shore rock breakwaters to  protect Bunn Leisure’s West Sands Holiday Park.
  • The £11m phase two of the Doncaster Southern Gateway (White Rose Way) dual carriageway build.
  • The Helix Canal contract in Falkirk, Scotland worth £13.5m.  The Forth and Clyde canal will be extended under the M9 to a new sea lock on the River Carron. The contract also includes construction of the foundations for the two, 30 metre high ‘Kelpie’ horse head steel sculptures.
  • In Wales, Balfour has picked up the £5.6m Gelligemlyn highways improvement project on the A470 within the Snowdonia National Park.
