The failure of the £66m turnover firm ranks as the biggest building services contractor collapse since MJN Colston earlier this year.
Just two months ago, the building services group’s electrical contracting arm was placed into administration but the main part of the business looked like it would survive after booking a £900,000 profit last year.
Administrator KPMG has laid off 135 staff.
Established in 1984, Airedale operated throughout the UK, undertaking installation projects in commercial and public sector buildings, retail outlets, plus education and medical facilities, on behalf of the biggest names in construction.
The biggest job on its books was a £10m M&E contract with Balfour Beatty for the 60 Holborn Viaduct office development in London.
It was also working for Pochin on the New Fountains Bridge student accommodation project in Edinburgh.
Airedale also previously worked for Wates on several jobs as well as working for Bam, Skanska and Ocon.
Airedale Maintenance Services
Although Airedale Maintenance Services was associated with Airedale Mechanical & Electrical, it is a completely independent company of sound financial status, with a good credit rating that remains trading and is not effected by Airedale Mechanical & Electrical going into administration.
