Richard Brownson, a construction site manager for Costain, helped free the driver after his meat lorry overturned and blocked the A55 last week.
Brownson was coming along the west-bound carriageway from Llanfairfechan and rushed to the scene of the accident with other passers-by.
He told the North Wales Pioneer: “I could see a huge cloud of white smoke – probably the height of a house.
“I could see the young lad sat in the back of the truck – myself and another guy both tried to kick the windows in but it was toughened glass. And there was that much diesel on the road we both found it really slippery.”
After getting a shovel from another rescuer, Brownson was able to break the window and pull out the driver, before administering basic first aid and waiting for the emergency services.
He added: “It was good to see that response with everybody helping.”
