Plans to build a new £28m velodrome and sports centre in Derby have been approved by the Environment Agency.

The agency has given the green-light to council plans to build the centre on a former landfill site near Pride Park stadium.

Bowmer & Kirkland has won the contract after beating off competition from Bam Construct, Galliford Try, Interserve and Morgan Sindall

Derby City Council officials will now meet with the B&K team to discuss final design and budget details for the contract which is expected to take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
