The existing reinforcement and development programme has an anticipated duration of 8-10 years, although the civil framework will run for four years.
SHETL owns the 5,000km high voltage electricity network of underground cables and overhead lines that serves the northern part of Scotland, and connects to central and southern Scotland and the rest of Great Britain.
The work has been geographically split into seven zones covering minor civil packages on major transmission projects in the north of Scotland:
- Zone 1: Perth & Kinross, Fife, Stirling, Angus, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City, Dundee City.
- Zone 2: Moray, Highland including Skye
- Zone 3: Western Isles
- Zone 4: Argyle and Bute including Mull, Islay, Arran and Jura
- Zone 5: Caithness and Sutherland
- Zone 6: Orkney and Shetland
- Zone 7: Out of Transmission License Area (i.e. NE England)
