Betting Spy: Get in the Hole with Europe at 6/4

It’s just three weeks to go now until the Ryder Cup and time to sort out a couple of decent bets on one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.

The European lads always seem to step up a gear for this and I’m predicting a sweet victory in the Americans’ own backyard.

Golf is the most individual of sports and the Yanks can’t seem to get their heads around the fact there’s no US in team.

To be fair there’s no Great Britain and Europe in team either but hopefully you see where I’m going with this garbled golf/David Brent management speak analogy.

And that’s straight for a decent bet on our boys at 6/4 to win and prove once again that team bonding is our forte even if the Americans seem a bit stronger on paper.

Players like Serio Garcia appear in a permanent sulk on the regular tour but grow a few inches when they slip on that European tank top and fight for each other.

Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter can’t seem to hit the heights in the Majors. But send them out of the locker room after a rousing team talk and they are almost invincible.

The spirit of Seve Ballesteros will be looming large over the Europeans as team captain Jose Maria Olazabal is sure to use his mentor as an inspiration for the side.

It’s going to be a great three days of golf spoiled only by the moronic roars of ‘get in the hole’ and ‘you’re the man’ from the Chicago locals after one too many bottles of light beer.

I’m also willing to take a chance on our form horse Rory McIlroy to top the scoring charts overall at a tasty looking 10/1 with Paddy Power.

McIlroy is in great nick and could sweep all before him on the tight Medinah Country Club course where great rival Tiger Woods could have some fun off the fairways if he starts spraying it around.

It’s a week-off from the Premier League so I’ll continue to bask in the glory of Andy Caroll’s West Ham debut.

The difference when he went off with a hamstring problem was frightening so here’s to the Hammers’ medical team getting East London’s favourite new pony tail back on the pitch as soon as possible.
