Frustrated site bosses have contacted the Enquirer to highlight problems getting through to the help desk at the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.
One site manager on a £25m project said: “I am increasingly frustrated by the service.
“We get men for induction in the morning who, for whatever reason, do not have a card on them but supply details.
“I ring the helpline and the standard answerphone message is ‘we are currently experiencing high volumes – please try later’ and it cuts you off.
“For the past fortnight I have been trying at all times of the day. I registered for online checking and that system is also down.”
CSCS bosses have vowed to look into the complaints but denied any problems with the online checking system
Chief executive Graham Wren said: “The CSCS Helpdesk is receiving an extremely high level of calls at the moment and we are sorry that some people are unable to get through.
“We are not aware of any issues with the online card checking system, but this will be investigated by ConstructionSkills who administer card services for CSCS.”
