Revised proposals for Medway UTC have been submitted to the Department for Education after an initial bid was turned down earlier this year.
UTCs offer 14 – 19 year olds a mixture of practical and academic education and training and are supported by a university, a further education college and local employers who will create projects and training for the students to participate in.
The Department for Education will now consider the submission before an official decision is made next March.
If successful, work to get the college up and running will get underway almost straight away in readiness for opening in September 2014.”
Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, Cllr Les Wicks, said: “Medway has a rich history of construction and engineering and we believe that a college specialising in these subjects will not only continue this tradition, but will also equip a new generation with first class technical skills that will help them pursue careers at all levels.”
