Work will involve a major refurbishment of the security search area and a reconfigured terminal layout.
BAM Construction’s contracts manager Jon Kiteley said: “We have several local companies from Nottingham and Derbyshire in prospect, and these are likely to cover steelwork, waste management, and mechanical and electrical aspects of the build. Several of our own team live within the East Midlands.”
Tim McDermott, General Manager, East Midlands Airport said: “It is incredibly important to the airport that we work with a team that understands our requirements and also the industry in which we work.
“BAM Construction has a proven track record and experience when redeveloping an airport and we are looking forward to working closely with the team throughout the build.
Site preparation works will begin next month and the project is expected to be completed towards the end of 2013.
The scheme will be completed in phases with the terminal building remaining operational at all times.
