The 40,000 sq ft centre is part of the Porth Teigr regeneration scheme and will form a creative hub alongside the BBC Cymru Wales’s Roath Lock studios which were built by Vinci and now play host to the filming of Doctor Who.

The new centre will be completed by 2014 and planning consent has already been granted.

Mark Hallett, development director for developer Igloo told the Western Mail: “Sustainability is a core value of Igloo and we were keen to appoint a contractor with excellent credentials in this area.

“We previously worked closely with Vinci to build Wales’ first Breeam Outstanding building through their construction of BBC Roath Lock studios, and achieved fantastic results including the diversion of 96% of site waste from landfill, and the use of apprentices and work experience placements.

“Our objective is for the centre for creative industries to aim for similar achievements, employ a local workforce, and use local suppliers, which will be socially responsible and provide the surrounding area with a lasting legacy.”

Steve Vorres, regional director from Vinci Construction UK, said: “We understand the value of sustainability, and we make a concerted effort to forge and maintain partnerships with local schools and colleges, offering practical support such as visits to school assemblies and on-site apprenticeships and work experience placements.”
