BAM Construct UK has bought facilities management services provider Sutton Group and its subsidiary Sutton Maintenance.

The deal will add £13m to BAM’s turnover from its facilities management activities and will increase staff numbers by more than 100.

The Sutton Group provides hard and soft maintenance, specialising in building services, out of four regional offices in London, Luton, Manchester and Glasgow.

BAM UK’s facilities management arm, BAM FM, has been operating successfully since 2001, and provides services at more than thirty schools.

In 2011, it expanded to the private sector with customers such as Unison. It also manages commercial buildings in the BAM Properties’ portfolio.

BAM FM and Sutton have worked together regularly as Sutton has provided mechanical and electrical support at many of the sites that BAM FM manages.

The firms collaborated to provide FM services at some of the sites in the Athletes Village at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Nico de Vries, chairman of Royal BAM Group, said: “The strategic acquisition of asset management companies like Sutton is an important part of the Group’s strategic agenda 2013-2015.

“BAM looks to play an increasing role in the management of its customers’ construction and infrastructure assets in our European home markets. BAM has the capability to offer its customers a full range of services across the construction life cycle.”
