Emergency services battled to save the driver this morning after he was taken ill 120ft above the ground.
A team of 20 firefighters attempted to rescue the driver at the site in Vernon Road.
But a spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service confirmed the driver had died.
She told the Docklands & East London Advertiser: “We were called after 8.30am to reports of a person who had collapsed in a tower crane.
“We sent one ambulance crew, our hazard area response team and a duty officer. But members of our hazard area response team sadly found him dead at the scene.”
