Betting Spy: Roar on the Lions and the Ashes are ours

What a few weeks ahead with the Lions decider tomorrow, Wimbledon, the Ashes then the Open.

Saturday morning will be a real nerve-shredder Down Under.

And for coach Warren Gatland it could be a career-defining moment depending on whether his ten-out-of fifteen Welsh strategy pays off.

The whole point of Lions tours is to unite the home nations. But the dropping of Brian O’Driscoll has certainly sparked some very partisan debates.

One thing’s for sure, if the Lions go down on Saturday then I’d stay away from Dublin pubs if I was Mr Gatland.

The head says Australia have got the momentum but I can’t bet on that lot so let’s just roar on our boys and hope the Welsh lads do us proud.

But it’s a head and heart job with the Ashes where England look far too strong for what looks like a very weak touring side.

The bookies are  well aware of that with England chalked-up at 5/2 on to win the famous urn.

But there’s still a few ways of making money to pay those Lord’s bar bills.

Quality will out in a proper test series so I’m taking Alastair Cook to be the series top runscorer at 5/1 with Paddy Power.

The England Captain’s game is perfect for the big tests and he can make hay against a limited Aussie attack.

Cook always keeps his cool and is famous for not sweating – whatever the conditions.

Now back in my sporting days I could break out in a fierce bead just pulling my boots on.

Luckily the England camp is a bit more professional than my rudimentary swipes on the village green.

I’m coming out in a sweat now just remembering the hell of “hot-boxing” it with my team mates.

We only had two cricket boxes between us so the outgoing batsman would delight in handing over the clammy protector as you made your way to the crease.

But enough of my cricketing-crotch memories.

We can also make a bit of cash on James Anderson.

He’s the best bowler in the series and should be backed at 4/1 to top the charts.

Fill up the fridge, turn on the TV and enjoy.
