The scheme for Shenley Road had been opposed by the studios where movies like Star Wars were made on the grounds that residents would complain about noise from future film shoots.
Hertsmere council had rejected a previous application but the new plan drawn up by architect Assael gained planning with a design echoing the 1930s heritage of the studios.
Greg Greasley, director of Assael Architecture said: “This is a difficult and challenging site where we have been able to produce a scheme of exceptional quality and create a contemporary, landmark development for Borehamwood.
“The design team has gone to great lengths to deliver a scheme that is architecturally fitting for this highly visible site, enhances the existing streetscape and seeks to deliver a clear distinctive identity for the area. We hope it sets the benchmark for future development in the Elstree Way Corridor.”
