After a two-year battle house builder Bellway got the go-ahead to build 366 executive homes on open farmland to the east of the A189. This site is 400m to the north-east of Gosforth Park Nature Reserve.
The decision has dealt a blow to local protesters who claimed victory when North Tyneside Council’s planning committee went against the recommendation of officers and refused the application.
Bellway appealed the decision and a public inquiry last October saw the planning inspector recommend the appeal be upheld.
