Arsenal sunk our latest punt by reverting to type at Old Trafford last week.
But while it’s never fun watching another tenner go up in smoke there’s always someone worse off. So step forward Henry Dhabasani.
Dhabasani is from Iganga in Uganda and that dangerous combination of Arsenal fan and reckless gambler.
He was feeling fairly bullish ahead of last week’s game and decided to have a bet with United fan Rashid Yiga.
But these boys weren’t talking a few pints or bragging rights for the week.
Dhabasani bet his house on the game while Yiga wagered his new Toyota Premio and his wife.
Ugandan newspaper The Observer reported: “The two put their stake in writing, with local leaders and fans witnessing the deed. Dhabasani, married to three wives with five children, fainted at the end of the match on realizing Arsenal had lost the game 1–0.
“On Monday, several Manchester United fans stormed Dhabasani’s home and threw him and his family out.”
Now Betting Spy isn’t the natural home for a sermon on problem gambling, but if you ever find yourself staking your car, home or wife on a game then it’s time for a long hard look in the mirror.
We’ll stick to usual stakes on Friday’s England friendly with Chile.
This should be a good test for Roy’s boys.
Chile are exactly the sort of side that cause us problems at major tournaments so Hodgson will want to see how well his side cope with their pace and flair.
The South Americans are an attacking side with a fairly weak defence which spells goals in my book.
Paddy Power are offering 2/1 on over 3.5 goals in the game and that looks worth a play.
