Southwark Council has selected Lovell to deliver four affordable housing schemes  in the south-east London borough.

The schemes totalling 90 new homes were awarded through the iESE SEaL (South East and London) framework.

Subject to planning permission, construction work on the new housing is expected to start in spring 2014 with completion scheduled for early 2016.

All homes will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making them 44% more energy efficient than properties built to current Building Regulations.

Councillor Fiona Colley, Southwark Council cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said:  “ I am pleased that contractors have been appointed for these sites and we can now press ahead with our plans to create 11,000 brand-new homes over the next 30 years for people in Southwark.”

  • 67 new homes – a mix apartments and three-bedroom maisonettes – at Sumner Road for social rent and shared ownership
  • 19 apartments for social rent and a small commercial unit at Long Lane, on land formerly occupied by a housing office
  • Eight family houses for social rent at Nunhead Green on the site of the former Nunhead Lane community centre. The scheme will also include the provision of a new community facility on a neighbouring site
  • A hostel in Old Kent Road with accommodation for 28 people.
