The 1,165-pupil new school building will be constructed on a canal-side site in Fountainbridge, just 500m away from the old school.
Designed by Allan Murray Architects, the five-floor building will be built to BREEAM very good standard.
The superstructure will comprise cast in-situ post-tensioned concrete flat slabs supported on concrete columns with cast in-situ stability cores.
Steel frames will be used for the long span structures over the sports hall, central atrium and rooftop plant screening.
Extensive works will also need to be carried out to adjoining roads at Dundee Street and Viewforth including installation of traffic signals and narrowing of carriageway to the existing listed structure Viewforth Bridge.
Subject to planning and budget consent, work is expected to start on the new school next autumn with completion two years later.
