A winning design for the high-profile building job has still to be agreed upon, although it is expected to cost between £3m and £6m to build.
The UK Government has already raised expectations for the building.
It said the overall concept needs to be original, visually compelling and memorable. It also needs to follow Thomas Heatherwick’s UK Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, which he described as the “world’s largest ever hairy building”.
A competition was launched at the end of last year for the design of the pavilion, which must reflect the theme ‘Feeding the World: Energy for Life’.
The UK Pavilion is intended to showcase British creativity and innovation with a special focus on food, lifestyle, technology and sustainability.
Five builders will be invited to bid. For further information email: [email protected]
