Construction starts later this month on the contract believed to be worth around £13m.
Wates will build a 45,000 sq ft facility for 350 pupils aged 7 to 11 years. This will replace the Cholmeley House library and teaching block, which will be demolished as part of the project.
The job includes extensive refurbishment and re-roofing works to Highgate Junior School’s Ingleholme Building, one of only a few remaining 19th century ‘villa’ houses in Highgate.
Designed by Architype, the building will also follow Passivhaus principles and utilise triple glazing to all windows to improve building insulation.
Completion of the project is scheduled for the end of next year and will also see the contractor deliver external works.
Richard Shroll, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction, London and Kent, said: “Working alongside live school environments calls for very meticulous planning and the site team have already begun our engagement with the school to ensure that minimal disruption is caused throughout the project.”
