The Interserve and Kajima team beats shortlisted rivals Wates and Morgan Sindall to the Priority School Building Programme job, worth between £100m and £150m.
It is the second major win for the pairing after last week bagging the £33m contract to build and maintain a national blood centre for Scotland.
The latest deal will see seven secondary schools built across Hertfordshire, Luton and Reading,
Interserve Kajima will be responsible for the design and construction of the schools and maintenance for 25 years.

Interserve Kajima and the schools will now work through a six-month detailed design stage through to financial close in later October.
Construction is due to start from November through to March 2015, with planned completions due for August 2016.
Kajima Partnerships has successfully secured 18 projects within the UK PPP market during the last 10 years, mostly in healthcare.
Presently four of the five PF2 batches have come out to tender, with the final Midlands batch due out in April.
Miller Construction, Laing O’Rourke and Sir Robert McAlpine are shortlisted bidders for a £120m batch of a dozen PF2 schools in the north east.
And in the North West, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Vinci are bidding a £120m batch of 12 schools.
Firms will be shortlisted in march for the £100m Yorkshire batch of seven secondary schools, three of which will be built in Bradford.
