A new 1,420-pupil school will be built by Miller Construction through its Hub North Scotland deal next to the existing school buildings at Culduthel Park.
The plan is to replace this old academy with a suite of new buildings, expanding capacity and also providing a games hall, dance studio, gymnasium and pitches for community use.
Additional Support Needs accommodation will be more than doubled and given full access to the rest of the school.
Construction will start in July on a 22 month programme, due to complete in May 2016. After that the nearby existing school will be demolished to turn the site into playing fields.
