The site at Prissick sports fields will house a new eight lane track and field stadium with seating for 650 people, as well as a five court racquet hall, a gym, tennis courts and all-weather pitches.

A 250m Olympic-length velodrome is also planned as part of a future phase two.

It will replace Middlesbrough’s older sports facilities which will be demolished with the land sold off for housing.

The overall masterplan also incorporates the development of 360 family homes on the former Prissick Depot, Tennis World, Ashdale PRU and Brackenhoe East School sites.

The development will feature a dedicated link road from Ladgate Lane and a new 1,100 space car park for The James Cook University Hospital, helping to reduce traffic congestion on Marton Road.

Willmott Dixon recently delivered eight new schools for Middlesborough as part of its BSF programme and the Sports Village sees the company continue its work with the council to transform the town’s community infrastructure.

The builder will now work alongside architect Enjoy Design with completion set for Spring 2015.

Procured through the Scape framework, Willmott Dixon will focus on the ‘local pound’ with a big emphasis on work going to companies within a 20 mile radius of the project.
