The team from Bristol-based Midas Group and Metek building services donated received the cash for hitting their building schedule.
But the big-hearted team decided to hand over the cheque to the Jessie May charity.
Due to open in September, Harbour Court is being developed in partnership with the University of the West of England and is managed by Prime Student Living, part of the Crosslane group of companies.
Midas Group and Metek invited Crosslane’s co-founder, James Metcalf, to be part of the cheque presentation ceremony .
And Metcalf then agreed to double the donation in recognition of Jessie May’s excellent work in the city and the progress on site.
Roger Harper, Chairman of the Board, Jessie May, said: “We were delighted to attend the topping out ceremony and accept the wonderful donation of £3000 from the site crew.
“Imagine our surprise when Crosslane Director James Metcalf generously matched the donation with a further £3000 giving us a grand total of £6000.
“Donations like these do not come every day and we truly appreciate the support which means that Jessie May Nurses can continue to provide vital respite visits for families in Bristol who care for their terminally ill child at home.”
Derek Quinn, Executive Director at Midas Construction, said: “What a fantastic gesture from the site crew, and from Crosslane to double the donation to £6,000.
“I would like to congratulate the team on delivering on a very tough schedule during one of the wettest winters we have experienced in the company’s 30 year history. Jessie May is a wonderful charity and we are delighted to support them.”
Jessie May provides nursing care at home for children and young people with life limiting conditions who are not expected to live beyond the age of 19.
