Betting Spy: Knockout tips for World Cup last 16

It’s finally knockout time in the World Cup and time to turn our attention to who will make it to the quarter finals now the also-rans have gone home.

The tournament has been a tough watch here at Betting Spy with our headline picks Spain packing their bags early after a woeful campaign.

The Spaniards were so bad they should have been dope tested. And as for England – well it was all horribly predictable.

It was telling at the end of the Costa Rica game that hardly any of the opposition even wanted to swop shirts with our “stars”.

And if Roy Hodsgon thought that dour draw was “full of positives” for the future then I fear for England at the next Euros.

But the continuing demise of English football is a debate for another day.

Let’s have a look at the last 16 matches and try and predict the outcome:

Brazil v Chile: The hosts are still outright favourites but don’t convince me. Chile have been one of the most exciting teams to watch and could spring a surprise. Chile to win 2-1

Colombia v Uruguay: Uruguay are toothless up front without Suarez while Colombia continue to impress.  Colombia to win 2-0

Holland v Mexico: This could be a cracker. Mexico have enjoyed a solid tournament but the Dutch are flying this year. Holland to win 2-1

Costa Rica v Greece: Two unheralded teams but the Greeks are past masters when it comes to grinding-out results. 1-1 draw with Greece to win on penalties

France v Nigeria: The French have looked potent while Nigeria are quick on the break. Could be a few goals in this one. France to win 3-2

Argentina v Switzerland: Messi looks in the mood which makes Argentina very hard to beat despite a back line which always looks like conceding. Argentina to win 3-1

Belgium v USA: A game too far for the Americans despite their heroics in qualifying from the “Group of Death”. Belgium to win 2-0

Germany v Algeria: The Algerians play quick, incisive football but the Germans are too cute at this level to trip up. Germany to win 2-1

There’s a couple of down days before the quarter finals so Betting Spy will be back late next week to look at the line-ups and see how our predictions fared.
