Plans for the site – which is located between Merseyway Shopping centre and the M60 – include a 10-screen cinema, restaurants, shops and a 360-space multi-storey car park.
The scheme may be broadened to include recladding works to the existing Debenhams store.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council will let the job as a design and build contract.
The seven-acre site currently consists of a car park and six shops which will be demolished.
Ambitious £500m plans for the site were drawn up by Lend Lease but abandoned five years ago when the market went sour.
Work is now expected to start by next May to complete in September 2017.
