Developer Great Portland Estates could start work on a further six projects within the next 12 months to take advantage of the booming London property market.

The firm is already pressing ahead with five schemes, totalling over 700,000 sq ft, including its £500m Rathbone Square project.

Toby Courtauld, Chief Executive, said today that the London developer has advanced six near-term schemes, totalling around 300,000 sq ft, all with potential starts in the next 12 months.

These include 73/89 Oxford Street, close to the Tottemham Court Road Crossrail station and former Royal Mail offices at 148 Old Street, EC1.

It is also working up major development opportunities at extra 14 uncommitted pipeline schemes, totalling 1.3m sq ft.

This brings the total development programme to 2.3m sq ft, covering 54% of the existing portfolio, 75% in West End, 53% with planning permission.

Courtauld said: “We have made good progress across our 2.3m sq ft development programme, winning new planning permissions and starting our largest ever development at our 411,200 sq ft Rathbone Square scheme at the east end of Oxford Street.

“With a growing London economy and healthy demand for our limited quantity of available space, we can expect further rental and valuation growth which bodes well for our significant development programme”.
