Suffolk Council is preparing to start bid races for two relief road schemes together worth £22m.

Both have attracted Government funding with the new investment helping to unlock development in the local enterprise zone site at Beccles and in the Suffolk Business Park, key strategic employment sites for Bury St Edmunds.

£15m Bury Eastern Relief Road

The 2.3km single carriageway scheme will unlock land to the east of the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds.

There will be five new roundabouts and alterations to the slip roads that connect with the Highway Agency’s A14.

Contract Start:Late 2015.

£7m Southern Relief Road in Beccles

The proposed 2km single carriageway Beccles southern relief road would link Ellough industrial estate to the A145 London Road south of Beccles town centre.

It is a greenfield site and will include two new roundabouts and a T junction at the midpoint.

Contract Start: March 2016.
