The MoD’s procurement arm has named two shortlists of a dozen bidders for its delayed South East and the South West capital works frameworks.

These frameworks are two of seven regional works contractors panels that will be used for MoD design and build projects valued up to £12m.

The total estimated value of the South East Framework is up to £250m and the South West Framework is up to £400m.

Later this week shortlisted bidders will be invited to submit tenders in order to finalise the list of four or five contractors for each panel.

Winners are due to be unveiled next summer for the four-year deal, with an option to extend for up to three years.

Projects worth up to £50m will be procured through the national capital works framework, which operates alongside the suite of regional deals.

John Jones, the frameworks project manager, said: “On this occasion we ran both competitions concurrently and received a total of 46 valid submissions as part of the PQQ process.

“The competition was strong and the bidders faced a rigorous evaluation process to be able to go forward to the tender stage.

“We positively encourage smaller suppliers and subcontractors to approach shortlisted bidders about their products and services by accessing the bidders’ directory online.”

As part of this process, bidders will be judged on a range of commercial and technical matters, ranging from supply chain management to issues relating to the Government construction strategy.

They will also be provided with an example of a construction project the MOD may require to be delivered through the frameworks, and bidders will be evaluated on their approach to its delivery.

The bidders have been invited to attend a conference at RAF Wyton on 26 November where delegates will be taken through the tendering process.
