The project includes fitting 11kV and 22kV electricity cables, as well as fibre optic pilot cables and the decommissioning of old high voltage cables.
This will improve resilience across London Underground’s power supply infrastructure and includes work to renew cabling and connect several substations to key power supply points.
Balfour Beatty was selected for three out of the four work lots awarded under the Power Cabling Framework in spring last year valued at a total of £250m.
William Naismith, Balfour Beatty Power Systems Director, said that one of the reasons for awarding the framework to Balfour Beatty was its commitment to employing young people and the company has so far recruited four trainees and two apprentices to the project.
Work starts this month and will be complete in early 2017.
