The Knottingley Power Project at the site of the former Oxiris Chemical works will generate 1500 MW once it comes into operation in 2018.
An army of 1,000 construction workers will be employed on the project, which will see three major turbine hall buildings and an 8km gas pipeline built to provide feedstock from national gas transmission network’s pipeline near Gateforth.
Irish energy company ESB International is building the scheme with Parsons Brinckerhoff and Arup acting as main consultants on the project.
