Further new contracts and extensions were secured during the first-half of the year as Costain’s strategy to chase critical national infrastructure projects in energy, water and transportation began to pay off.
Major contract awards include the development of the M4 corridor around Newport for the Welsh Government, the underground link between the Crossrail and Bakerloo Line platforms at Paddington station, and two sections of the A14 improvement scheme for Highways England.
According to a trading statement ahead of posting first-half results, this helped to lift orders from £3.2bn at the same time last year to £3.7bn – 90% comprising repeat orders.
In addition, Costain maintained a strong preferred bidder position of over £500m, while the contractor reported tendering activity remained high.
