John Frankiewicz spent 30 years at Willmott Dixon before stepping down at the end of 2014 to take a year out of the industry.
But he has made an early return at Briggs & Forrester where he has become a non-executive director.
Frankiewicz is also planning a return to Willmott Dixon in a similar non-executive director role next year.
Briggs & Forrester Group Chairman Mike Stanton said: “We are delighted to welcome John to the Briggs & Forrester team.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that has seen him lead a successful business that grew to £1 billion in turnover.
“He is a highly influential voice on national construction issues and as an advocate for change and growth in business will play a key role in the future growth of our company.”
