Overall construction activity edged up 0.2%, with new work leading the recovery with a 1.2% rise while repair and maintenance was a drag on growth, falling by 1.5%.
Within all new work, there was a 4.1% increases in private commercial, and private housing grew by 2.3%.
But patchy official figures also showed further declines in public new housing, industrial and infrastructure with reported falls of 2.8%, 1.6%, 1.1% respectively.
The Office of National Statistics also released latest new order figures for the third quarter, which edged up 0.8% in July to Sept, compared with the second quarter.
This was driven by an 11% increases in public other new work, and 4% uplift in private commercial.
