Murrays’ Mills, which is one of the oldest surviving steam powered cotton mills, will be transformed into 124 one, two and three bedroom apartments for sale as part of phase one of the regeneration of Ancoats and New Islington.

Ultimately developer Manchester Life, a joint venture between the council and Manchester City FC owner Abu Dhabi United Group, plans to create over 900 homes in the emerging neighbourhoods of Ancoats and New Islington.

Planning permission and listed building consent were granted for the scheme last July 2015 allowing development work to start this month.

The historic canal basin in the centre of the site will become the centrepiece of a new landscaped space, and all apartments have been designed around the features and character of the Mills.

Marty Edelman, Executive Chairman of Manchester Life Development Company, said: “Our absolute priority is to preserve the heritage of one of Manchester’s most important historical buildings, and in doing so, create a flagship residential scheme in keeping with the character of Ancoats.

“Murrays’ Mills will provide a unique living experience for the 124 owners, and importantly will serve as a catalyst for further regeneration in the area.”

Gary Hughes, GRAHAM Construction north of England regional director, said: “We have worked closely with Manchester Life and its design partners over the past year to ensure that every aspect of the restorative conversion of Murrays’ Mills protects the building and fulfills the vision for the Manchester Life living experience.”
