Betting Spy: Lump on Leicester and West Ham

Writing this column a year ago and talking about Leicester City as champions would have been dismissed as a rather bizarre stab at an April Fool.

The Foxes looked doomed languishing at the other end of the table before they started on their current remarkable run.

They now sit proudly in top spot and are showing no signs of stopping as more fancied rivals flounder around them.

Who would have thought that Leicester had a chance of title glory?

Well in the gambling world there’s always a few punters blinded by hope and loyalty.

Some dreamers had a go at the 5,000/1 on offer pre-season with the most bullish Blues fan looking to bank £100,000 for his £20 outlay.

Spurs look the only serious challengers now and the the way Man City have given up the ghost is embarrassing.

Turning the manager into a dead man walking because the powers that be couldn’t contain their excitement about landing Pep Guardiola as their new boss has backfired spectacularly.

City are now facing a real fight to hang on to a Champions League place and the competition could see Leicester, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham as the UK entrants next season.

Upton Park, Stratford, Barcelona has a nice “Del Boy van” ring to it and it could be a lot of fun following the Hammers on tour.

So let’s start building up the travel fund with a cheeky little double this weekend.

West Ham at home to Crystal Palace looks a banker as the Irons refuse to revert to their default position of flattering to deceive while Palace haven’t won a league game for months.

There is real competition up front these days and Slaven Bilic will be keen to make every match a winning won during the emotional farewell to the Boleyn.

And let’s pair them up with champions elect Leicester who will enjoy facing a Southampton side who will come to play and could get caught on the quickfire counter.

The double on two of the league’s form teams at home pays 7/2 which is too good not to snap up.
