The Ferrovial Agroman Laing O’Rourke joint venture responsible for delivering the project in Battersea placed the order with the Kent manufacturer.
The factory’s last major project was the production of ring segments for the 7.8 km Lee Tunnel project in London, which required 7.8 metre diameter rings.
The new order requires 3,280 concrete tunnel rings, which will be 5.2m in diameter and line 2.4 km of twin tunnels.
Around 45 local people will work a twin shift producing 70 tunnel rings a week.
David Hicks, Morgan Sindall’s senior operations manager at the Ridham facility, said: “It’s great to be remobilising the facility and recreating opportunities for the local community.
“We’re currently re-commissioning the factory, getting it ready for production ahead of the start-up date in July.”
