The contract to construct an elevated extension from an existing railway line and a new station at Barking Riverside, includes modification of existing Network Rail operational railway infrastructure.
The works include the modification of the existing railway lines from Barking station over a stretch of 3km with a new 1.5km railway extension from Renwick Road overbridge to the new terminus station.
The works entail the construction of an embankment ramp up to a new concrete viaduct supporting a 2-track railway extension of 1.5 km into the heart of the new residential development at Barking Riverside.
A completed and approved design for the works will be provided by RfL to firms invited to tender.
Work is expected to start in February 2018 for completion by August 2020.
