£1bn YORcivil 2 framework out for renewal

More than 30 civil engineering contractors face a fight to renew their places on the YORcivil framework covering Yorkshire and Humberside.

Prequalification has just started for the YORcivil2 framework, which this time around is expected to be worth over £1bn, nearly double the estimate five years ago.

The YORcivil framework consists of two sub-regional frameworks each with separate lots dealing with different types or value of works.

It provides local authorities in the regions with preferred contractors for highways and general civil engineering work.

The new framework panel will include more lots than previously, opening the door to small civil engineering contractors.

Sheffield City Council will prequalify firms for the south and west area panel of firms, with a total estimated project value of over £720m over six years.

Up to eight contractors will be selected for each of the seven lots, with the last covering specialist surfacing works.

Previous lots for barriers, road markings and street lighting have been dropped this time around.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is handling the north and east area contractors framework agreement, which will appoint up to six contractors per lot and includes a coastal works category this time.

This is estimated to be worth up to £324m, including £20m for Bridlington Harbour works.

Tender documentation is available only through the YORtender system at http://www.yortender.co.uk using the project reference no. CM122.
